Karen McNab Fine Art at Gallery MCNABS.NET

Still Life with Pumpkin
This painting harmonizes a variety of contrasting textures, colours and forms into a classic still life presentation. The rough texture of the broken jug contrasts sharply with the smooth newness of the small pumpkin and the shiny surface of the stein. Draped behind and below these objects is a blue velvet drapery that ties these diverse elements together.

Self Portrait
Not for sale.

Heredity
Heredity works with the concepts of roots, colour and flow.

Felucca on the Nile
A very typical scene on the Nile River, as seen from a river cruise boat. Based on a photo taken by the artist.

Glacial Melt
Glacial Melt captures the moment of collapse of a large block of subarctic glacier into the sea. This work stands almost a metre tall, reflecting the majesty of the glacial formation in dimension and drama.

Rocky Outcrop
This smaller work was created with a palette knife to give the rock surfaces texture and depth. High contrast between the deep, cool blues of background and the bright yellow and golds of the rock give interest to the composition.

English Waterfall
Nearly abstract in feel, this rendering of a medieval water spill in the countryside of England is actually a faithful piece of realism. The delicate modelling of color ensures the scene resonates with antiquity and calm.

Based on an original photograph by Malcolm Miller of St. Catharines Ontario.

Orange Lily
The large Orange Lily is a companion piece to the White Lily also displayed on this site. The warmth of the orange and reddish hues provides and interesting contrast to the coolness of the colours in White Lily.

Portrait
This graphite portrait of a man is highly realistic. Taken from a portrait photograph of the artist's husband.

Cactus
This small yet colourful image playfully reflects the contradictions of thorny unapproachability and prettiness that the cactus embodies. The abstracted blues and purples in the background illuminate and focus attention on this simple yet beguiling subject.

Hibiscus
The velvet texture of the leaves contrasts with the brilliant hues of this highly detailed rendering of an Hibiscus flower against an orange brick background.

White Lily
The White Lily and Orange Lily are companion pieces, the white being cooler in tone.

August Sunset
Based on a photograph taken by the artist at a summer home in the Kawartha lakes, this original oil painting captures the warmth and serenity of sundown over water at the end of a hot summer day.
