On the face of it, astrology and quantum physics seem about as far from each other as you can possibly get. Quantum physicists study at university for years; astrologers can sometimes do their work by intuition. One is mostly said to deal with matter, while the other mostly deals with the mind. But they do have one important sector where the colors overlap … that is, they both astrology and quantum physics deal with types of energy and particles that we know are there, but have yet to explain.
What is quantum mechanics/physics?
If you are anything like I was for most of my early adulthood, quantum physics just meant really, really hard physics! Actually, quantum physics deals with subatomic particles -- the particles that Newton failed to describe or incorporate into his laws of classical physics. Quantum physics explains the wave/particle duality, the spin of a particle, the fact that we can never really be certain of the exact position and velocity of a particle, and that energy is a separate phenomenon to matter.
What is astrology?
Astrology, from the horoscope in the newspaper to highly personalized online astrology readings, recognizes (and interprets with highly variable degrees of accuracy, depending on personalization!) that energy is a phenomenon separate to matter, but that energy has an effect on matter. We also deal with the uncertainty principle (which in quantum physics refers to never really knowing the spin, velocity and position of a particle accurately), in that we can never accurately measure how two elements will interact with each other -- we can only describe each one accurately.
Online astrology readings recognize that every person was born at a different time and different place on the planet, and thus have a different cosmic imprint on their nature. In comparing this phenomenon to quantum physics, it is like seeing every individual as an element within the periodic table. Everyone is different than the other. They may have only minor differences in electrons, protons and neutrons, but when you put a heap of them together, they express that small difference in very visible ways! Even twins, with a relatively small difference in time of birth (and usually the same place!) can have very different astrological readings.
We are about to enter into the Age of Aquarius, or the age of energy … quantum physics is actually quite a good companion to astrology at this point in history!
